The fast infrastructural and physical changes of contemporary cities have frequently implied the lack of continuity between architectural or urban elements which takes the form of disorder spots in developing urban landscape barely integrate in their environment. Territory in various projects requires more ample connotations of scale and functional relationships. A term aimed to define an architectural or urban proposal that, with a new kind of public spaces, connections, path, activities, not only goes beyond the building’s envelope to influence a vast urban territory, but rather accepts the entering of the city inside the same building.

We call this “Urban Room.”

With the creation of large public spaces in major buildings as elements of connection between architecture and city rises a new condition where people, environment and activities confront to each other dynamically.

Asia Square Tower becomes the latest example, amongst high numbers of rising skyscrapers in the Central Business District in Singapore. Conceived as mixed use development of 2 million square feet of office spaces, 280 five-star hotel rooms; the “CUBE” form comprises 60 thousands square feet of retail spaces. Lastly, 100 thousand square foot of open public space becomes an important point of contacts for business, networking and relaxation. Urban rooms can have multiple functions, such as exhibitions and performance. (Definitely no political demonstration)
